Bank of the Liujiaxia reservoir (Gansu)
Ref: 070624-1601 Date: 24-06-2007
The Liujiaxia reservoir was built on the Yellow River for power generation, flood control, irrigation etc. The construction of the reservoir resulted in the displacement of many local people. There were also serious implications for the natural environment, including increased erosion and heightened risk of landslides. Terracing, planting of trees and other vegetation both stabilise the hill faces and permit crop cultivation almost to the water's edge.
