Ferry pulled up along the bank of the Liujiaxia reservoir (Gansu)

A ferry has pulled up along the bank of the Liujiaxia reservoir. The reservoir was built on the Yellow River for power generation, flood control, irrigation etc. Its construction resulted in the displacement of many local people. There were also serious implications for the natural environment, including increased erosion and heightened risk of landslides. Terracing, planting of trees and other vegetation both stabilise the hill faces and permit crop cultivation almost to the water's edge.
