These archaeologists and workers are completing the excavation of a Late Shang dynasty (13th - 11th centuries BC) chariot burial in the ancient city of Yinxu. Yinxu is located in and around the modern city of Anyang (Henan province). The excavator (on the left, wearing a white shirt) is He Yuling. The burial comprises a chariot, two male horses, two people, a dog and harness components. Most of the chariot itself has rotted away, but its structural remains can be seen as shadows in the dense loess that are excavated by experienced workmen.
